    Exclamation Have your photography works reviewed by industry professionals for free!

    Ever wondered just how great it would be if you could get some of Singapore’s most seasoned creative industry veterans in the in one place, offering you professional advice and feedback on how to refine your craft? Well, if you’re an artist, designer or photographer seeking to take your work to the next level, you’ll get your chance this October with the Noise Singapore Portfolio Critique Sessions! To top it off, besides the invaluable critique you’d be getting on how to improve both your work and chances in the arts, it’s also a great opportunity to showcase your creativity and network with your peers and industry professionals.

    Each participant will be given 10 minutes to present and elaborate on 10 of their chosen photography pieces to the reviewers. This will be followed by a short critique session where each reviewer will give advice and feedback on how participants can refine their work.

    Date: 31 Oct 2009
    Venue: Republic Polytechnic, 9 Woodlands Ave 9
    Time: 2-5 pm
    Speakers: Emmeline Yong, Bryan van der Beek and Ivanho Harlim
    Register: Email the desired session, your name, NRIC, contact number and a link to your Noise profile page to or call 6344 2953 for assistance. Priority will be given to Noise members.

    Please indicate if you are joining as a participant or a member of the audience. Participants are required to bring along 10 of their photos in soft copy.

    About Bryan van der Beek
    A graduate of Indiana University's School of Journalism, Bryan van der Beek has worked for newspapers in the USA as well as freelanced for publications such as Time Magazine, Newsweek, The Washington Post and the Associated Press before becoming a staff photojournalist at the Straits Times. He also lectures at Nanyang Technological University and Temasek Polytechnic.

    About Ivanho Harlim
    After completing the BA Advertising and MA Communications courses at RMIT, Melbourne, Ivanho Harlim decided to concentrate on photography. He started contributing to local and regional magazines in Singapore in 2001, and has shot for clients like Nokia, Levi's, Citibank and Nike since. His work has been associated with youth and music culture as a result of long-time collaborations with fashion label Woods & Woods, and publications such as Juice. Last year, his photos of Woods & Woods were published in 'Modern Menswear' by Hywel Davies, a book documenting the rise of menswear design.

    About Emmeline Yong
    Emmeline Yong is a partner at Objectifs - Centre for Photography and Filmmaking, which she co-founded in March 2003. One of Singapore's leading contemporary visual arts centre, Objectifs focuses on photography and filmmaking education for professionals and enthusiasts, and holds photography exhibitions and film screenings to build awareness for the crafts. The centre has been responsible for many groundbreaking photography and film programmes in Singapore, including the first photography mentorship programme (Shooting Home) and photography/filmmaking artist-in-residency. Objectifs also conducts workshops at schools, and has reached out to more than 15,000 students in secondary schools, junior colleges and tertiary institutions.
