Thread: GIMPed?

  1. #1

    Default GIMPed?

Before reading further, this thread is meant to be a genuine plea for constructive input. Please do not make any biased comments or bash any software and/or promote your own choice.

I'm checking around if there is any other GIMP users who can help. I learnt about GIMP before I heard about Photoshop years ago. Ignoring the reasons and decision train, suffice to say I wish to learn more about GIMP to make it my primary image editor.

Question is: Is there any courses available in Singapore or even informal lessons that are available?

I've picked up Akkana Peck's "Beginning GIMP" but NLB only has one based on 2.4, most bookstores don't carry anything for GIMP and I am blanching at the aspect of having to end up paying for a book which costs the same as PS CS4 (student price). IF there is a worthwhile course, I wouldn't mind, but if I have to spend like mad, then it defeats one of the purposes of choosing GIMP.

    Cheers.

GIMP tries to replicate many functions in Adobe Photoshop. You can try attending Photoshop courses and try replicating using GIMP. Most of these courses are inclined towards graphical creativity than technical proficiency since there are many ways to achieve a similar effect.

gimp is pretty powerful considering its a free product.

here are some net resources that helped me a lot. you can learn a lot from tutorials about specific tasks as opposed to taking a classroom course, imho.

You may want to check out gimpshop.

As the name suggests, it makes gimp a lot more like photoshop, shortcuts and menu entries wise. This will make the transition a lot easier.

By the way, as rijac suggested, a lot of online resources talking about Gimp and lots of tutorials floating around the net.

Moderator, I think joeyboy post above is bogus contribution, copying contribution originally from squid and sneaking in 2 links.
