Thread: Sony ? Canon ? Come See !

  1. #1

    Default Sony ? Canon ? Come See !

    Sony a850 cost about S$2999 while Canon 7D cost about S$2699.
    Sony is a 24.6 megapixel full frame camera while Canon is 18 megapixel crop frame (1.6x) camera . ( Both prices are NOT street price )

    Which will you choose? I understand both are very different camera .
    Canon=Sports
    Sony = Still images

    Some may even say for face sake they will buy canon because canon is more established in photography .

    Well as a photographer who wants the best image quality which will you choose?

    Remember the choice must also means you are considering the whole system .

    Sounds like he needs help with his homework. HAAHAHAHA

    If it's for yourself, only you can decide. Nobody can tell you what to buy.

    This is an interesting thread... becos i went into the sony showroom yesterday and toyed with the a850.... and wow the viewfinder is really huge compared to 50d, d300, d70s etc... its so big that manual focus can be very precise.

    actually, I am thinking of getting a lower priced full frame to play with, and yes the a850 becos of its megapixels and viewfinder is really attractive for me.... I might just be getting the a850 + 50 f1.4 and a flash thats all for the sony system for portrait purposes... anyway at low iso, i dun see much difference in image quality between a850, 1dsmkiii and d3x, that really makes it attractive...

    You're going to get many different answers depending on the photographer's shooting style/requirements/current system/etc.

    If I'm starting from scratch, I will prefer A850 for its FF capabilities and features like built-in body anti-shake. The advantages that the 7D has over A850 i.e. live-view, HD recording and slower FPS/AF, I don't really require them for what I shoot i.e. portraits, street, occasional travel/event.

    For those who are into MP fever, the A850 represents the most "value for pixels" DSLR, at $2,699 for 24.6MP, it represents S$109.72 per MP =p

    War-baiting.

    See, if you like Canon, then buy Canon. If like Sony then buy Sony.

    You like de, then will take care of it, so will last longer.

    Say,... try to post EOS 500D (or 7d?) and a A380 (or A850?)at the BnS section slashing $100 from their original price.
    Which one do you think will get sold first??

    That has nothing to do with resale value.

    I am not sure about the resale value but somehow, sony doesn't give me very good impression. Over the years, they have often introduced new formats and INSIST on going their own way, only pulling the plug after a few years. the PSP UMD is a good example.

    You might say that's from a different division, but, hey, their cameras uses MSPRO cards too right?

    Somehow the focus of canon for being in this business for the long haul gives better assurance for the future business.
    In this respect, I would prefer pentax over sony too.

    it doesn't matter really...the sony dslr real street price is way below the price of their rrp. we can afford to drop the price anytime.those selling only represent a very small %.
    beside..u do not have to feel defensive even if i said canon dslr drop fast n alot

    Their cameras use CF cards, SD cards and MS cards. All their DSLR cameras have at least 1 "normal" card format.

    Pentax? They make nice cameras (using Sony sensors too) but their marketshare is very small already. I'd be worried about them being shut down by Hoya.

    Sony? They don't play for short-term gains. They play for the long run.
