Default Medium Format Film

Can someone enlighten me on the kinds?
I got my bf who happened to go Marina Sq to help me get 2 rolls from Cathay.
In the end the lady even asked what kind of pictures I intended to take so that she could recommend the film to buy.
What are the differences? I thought there are only differences in ISO.
What's Alpha? She said something about the film being what 160, and when I asked what's that she told me alpha.
And what abt the brands? Any difference? Or is the difference just a matter of preference like 35mm film?
Thanks!
Sorry if I've asked many silly questions.
I'm a very new newbie.

Try going to Ruby Photos and talk to the guys at the counter. You will be able to get a better picture of the types of films avail for MF.

Generally, yesh, there's the difference in ISO but also, the type of films important. Comparisonly liken to 35mm film, you have slide films/ negative films of various types/ B&W of various types.... each has it's pros and cons of usage.

if you are just toying around with MF with your HOLGA, then a normal B&W or a normal Colour film will do.

Try IFORD's iso125 film for 120 format

and do a search on Google for more info on Medium format
