Singapore Wedding Cinematogrpahers/Videographers

I got curious after reading about the number of weddings locally and hope to tabulate the number of wedding videographers locally. Is the market over crowded? I'll start with some of the full timers I know and please add it on if you know. Freelancers a bit tough to track. Thks.

I don't think it is overcrowded for those who are producing decent works. There is definitely more demand than supply. More and more couples are seeing the value of motion pic over still pic now.

Perhaps there maybe overcrowding in the low-end market? It is sad that most SG couples are still unknowingly getting the mass-market packages where the videographer limits his capturing to approx 2 hrs for the entire AD, so as to cut down on post-production efforts. The details of their day will most likely be presented in a nauseating raw form, or with sparse content with no continuity of shots.

I've seen some descent commissioned freelance work for the "mass-market packages" in the "low-end market".

Anyway, it's a free market.

We all start at the low end when freelancing before reaching the desired pricing. A lot of people has stayed in the low end pricing (est $600 to $1200 IMHO) for mass sales. While there will always be the better freelancers who are on their way up, a large majority has chosen to stay "affordable".

Taking reference to the Stills market, the price ranges from $600 to $6000 for 10hrs of work!! The local motion picture price range is a lot smaller. IMHO, the pricing here is really quite low for the amount of effort involved.

I am just thinking how much should the low end prices be to justify the amount of work and equipment cost?

I charge $1000 for Wedding Coverage for the day.
Additional $400 for Expres Highlights.
Additional $400 for Advance editing of the entire day footage into a summary reel (No one bother about this acutally)

Is that reasonable?

Think u can do better la bro. 1hr for $150 ba. The other two is ok. But like u say, my exp is not many ppl really care about the rest of the footages editing.

I think couples will start to care about the "rest of the footages" when everyone starts to produce quality works out of those footages.

To me, an express highlight is only meant to entertain the banquet guests and make the couple look good before their march in (akin to a photo-collage for the stills). Value not high. To shoot for highlights is relatively easy once you are experienced. There is more room for creative play as one can run around like a photographer and need not ensure continuity of shots, and neither capture dialogues.

Whereas all the "rest of the footages" is the real archival of the wedding day details, and that is what the couples will watch with their children in 15-20 yrs to come (just like flipping thru the wedding photo coffee table album). I feel that producing a full-length feature movie with actual audio that moves the plot should be the holy-grail.

What do you guys think? Do you shoot for their guests, or do you shoot for their children?


However, I guess everyone will sadly agree that most local couples rather pay $3K to $6K for a branded photographer, than to pay more than $2K for a good videographer (post-production included). Just look at the postings under "Service Wanted" ... $600 for fulll-day with express... Sigh... I feel that producing a quality full length feature will only be sustainable if the price >>$4.5K. Pardon me for the bitching.

Yup. Thaz why there is a limit for the documentary edit since the price is not there. It will take a long time to reach there when the market is highly unregulated.

But its good to see that the industry standard is going up. More people using better tools (stabilisers, tripods, etc) and producing better work.

I am surprise, isn't that the normal? At least for the companies that I had enquired last time....
In general, this is normally what they do, they will be there for the whole day, but depending on the event happening, the final Raw footage might only be 2-3hrs worth. After editing, it will normally be about 2hrs worth. I find this is reasonable mah...
Just wondering how much footage you captured for a normal AD wedding event? After editing how long is the final footage? full 10 hrs like taken from CCTV?

I have not been doing wedding for years (old liao, no engery ) and don't really know what's the practise nowadays.

When I was freelancing years back, usually will captured 2 to 3 hours of footages depending on how eventful.. and limit the final edited video into about 1.5hours.. max 2hours to fit into a single DVD. I thought it is still the practise nowadays?

No obligation, I don't think anybody will like to seat and watch the video for more then 2 hours for wedding?? it is not a drama..

Same here... haa haa will not want to sit infront to watch my 10hrs wedding.... even my wife 45min makeup session I don't think I can sit thru.... haa haa .
Even the Tea serving part, I also Fast forward....
But then I had been to a wedding dinner, where the express highlight shown is like over 10-15 mins... I also cannot sit thru that... First 5 mins still can hear people laugh and talk about the video then last 5 min like every one eating liao..... but maybe is just that the video not entertaining enough...
