i quote from wikipedia:
"Mania (from Greek μανία and that from μαίνομαι - mainomai, "to rage, to be furious") is a severe medical condition characterized by extremely elevated mood, energy, unusual thought patterns and sometimes psychosis."
psychosis happens more usually during full blown or severe mania. the less manic cycles are called hypomania.
anyways, for a person with psychosis, he or she can be bombarded with delusional thoughts or in more severe cases, hear voices. there are so many things that can be done that are caused by a manic episode, so who's to say that she wasn't delusional or that she heard voices?
i'm not saying it is true, but it is a possibility.
i think the problem is that she made it sound as if her crimes weren't her fault. whether she has bipolar or not, she has done it, and she should be sorry about it.
bipolar patients have their normal moods as well. it doesn't mean that they only swing from extreme highs to extreme lows. they just have a really really broad spectrum of moods.
and if you're thinking that oh maybe she has a very severe case of bipolar and has zero control whatsoever in her actions, then in that case, she would and should be hospitalised.
anyways, when doctors diagnose, they don't just hear from the patient's side of the story. they usually ask to speak to their very close friends and family members to ask about the patient's behaviour and mood patterns through the years or even since childhood. they sometimes give mood charts for the patients to fill up too, or get family members to observe them.

How do we extend mercy to those who aren't ready to receive it (ie. unremorseful)?
I agree with some of the comments saying that I'm being bias and unsympathtic. I find it hard to be merciful to those who aren't merciful to themselves. As for being outright bias, take it as my personal opinion, this is not a place for tertiary research.
The whole point is, I just don't wish to be represented by boomz because it's causing too much shame to the majority of the folks (including me) in an international event.
We don't need another joke about us.
And nope, I don't have bipolar disorder- at least doctor told me so- if not I would have lost my restrain and reacted to the unkind remarks made earlier.

Just imagine the headlines during the international event
SINGAPORE'S BEAUTY QUEEN IS A CONVICTED FRAUDSTER !!!!!
this time, it is the whole country which BOOMZ!!!
I get paid more shooting part time ...... damn, I should find more time to shoot part time
If her condition is so severe that she has zero control over her own actions then i believe she is physically unfit for the competition.
If her condition is mild and she is using it as an excuse for the credit card fraud, then i guess in terms of character, she is not good enough to represent Singapore.
Aiyo ,cut her some slack la. She's so young....don't tell me most of u just want to see someone fail n die n rot then happy isit? None of us is perfect so please don't preach 'sainthood' n don't go OTT on the moral high ground overture
If any of u isn't guilty of any wrong doing in your life ,then u can be free to cast the 1st stone. If not then save your 'venom' for something else ........
Saints do wrong too, but at least they admit them and remorse over them.
Aiyah, this moral talk about 'casting first stone if you're free from any wrong-doing' again
If you expect all to abide by that moral standard, then I think maybe only Mickey Mouse and his Disney friends can criticize Ris liao.
Let's be realistic here, this is an internet forum, not a church. Free speech please.
Yes, many of us are not perfect, but not all of us are so imperfect to the point of committing a crime.
There is a difference between being mischievious and being criminal you know?
Well, the concept of 'crime' is derived from the norms of society at large, which means that different acts result in different penalties in different societies.
That said, swiping someone else's credit card is pretty obviously wrong.
I’ve mixed feelings about letting her keep her crown. We arent going to even get close for it to matter anyway, but on the other hand, this aint the yellow ribbon project (Which she can now join since she's tried all other pageants already).
What does irk me though, is the response by the organiser, where they said that Singaporeans ‘didnt pay for Ris Low’. Dont exactly know how to read that.
Anyway, she’s great lah, I’ve not enjoyed beauty pageants this much in a while.
You guys think you know so much , started to post and give your comment , sounded as if you are perfect staint, above all wrong and misdeeds.
What you heard are just news carried in the newspaper. How do you know ERM/organsizer is not taking any action?
Surely they have to consult their legal people on the necessary action to follow.
