Default Crocodile fish

This is one of the photos I took in Sipadan in 2002 - it was my 2nd dive trip trying out u/w photography. Please feel free to give your views and criticism - so that all can learn on how to improve.

Taken with Canon A40, no external strobes. Some post-processing.

stone and scorpion are venomous, croc is not. Croc has elaborate eyelids, to camouflage its appearance. It is a Sand Sweller. As for the Stone and Scorpion , more of Waiting to kill Strategies

nice close up shot.

But i find the color a little wierd. too much of post editing? look unnatural to me, the fish and corals.....u have this small part that is natural color of the fish (to me), but the rest is white......

I did bump up the contrast quite a bit so that may have contributed to the less natural look. But i did try to keep the colours to that perceived by my eye. The staghorn? coral on which the scorpion fish is resting on was a very pale blue-ish grey and the scorpion fish itself was predominately greyish white. However, its eye was not this weird orange - think that orange colour was caused by the flash.

most scorpion fish's eyes will be that colour, actually, so far almost all, actually all eyes of the scorpion fish will appear orange in colour when photographed with strobes, mainly due to the return of light at depth

Becos there is this part below the eye which I thot is natural color of the fish, and I wonder why the rest is all white.

But what i like most about scorpion fish shots are those macros on the eye....

it is a lens flare on the eyes, besides that no post processing done, besides cropping and resizing to forum standards

Wah! Yr scorpion fish v colourful compared to my 'albino' one. Honestly, if the divemaster didn't point out the scorpion fish to me, i wld have swam right past it.

waisj's photo is more colourful, but it blends pretty well with its surroundings, hence it should be rather difficult to spot too... i always depend on my friends to spot such fishes, keke.. got once i saw one among dunno staghorns or stones, cant remember, just the tail side, but then after a few min of observation i still couldnt decide if it was a fish, though the shape seemed like it, haha...

Here's a frontal shot.
Colours may vary but it's usually reddish brown although it may appear to be greyish at depts.
