Did you try going back to the original unedited file?

If you did a 'Save as' and the original exists, go back to the original and just redo the file and make sure to check your file extension choice before saving as again.

There might be a quicker way, but I am not aware of it. Would love to find out though.

I was using ACDSEE photo manager to do a batch rename of all my pictures...but have no idea why it changed to file type instead. I did not "Save as" but "save" instead.

It sounds like you either have a virus, or a program called Junmei that took over the editing/default opening of the file.

If it is a rename operation, why not just rename it back?

Try something. Take one of the files, make a copy of it (very important), then go to 'My computer', on 'Tools', click 'Folder options', go to 'view', check 'hide extentions for known file types', and you should be able to see *filename*.junmei on that file. right click and change it to .jpg and see whether you can open it. If you can, do the same for all the other files.

After that, go back to the same place to hide all the extentions.
