Default Any place to get Nikon film scanners these days?

I see from Nikon's website that all their film scanners have been discontinued here.

http://www.nikon.com.sg/products.php...discontinued=1

Is there any place where I can still get hold of one? Need to digitize some of my old old chromes.

wow, I didnt know that nikon stop production of scanners just like that!

Anyway, erm, might wanna try a flat bed scanner, Epson V700, close to dedicated scanning.

It does 135 & 120mm.

Thanks sprewell - I finally bit the bullet and got the nikon coolscan V ED. One last piece at Alan photo. Just tried scanning - the quality is outstanding compared to the old Minolta I had. Scans have great detail and sharpness out of the box. Just a bit of colour / curves and it's print ready.

Downside = 140MB TIFF's per frame... Time to start looking at petabyte storage ??

Hi Komodo, the price was way high - $1350 at Alan. Absolutely no luck bargaining, offering to pay hard cash, etc. I'd called Cathay and other stores earlier, no one had anything in this range. Called Nikon Singapore - they said there's probably no Coolscan-V's in retail stores around Sg as it was discontinued last year, so this must be (one of) the last. Absolutely no regrets though, the scan quality is outstanding by any measure, truly exceeded my expectation of what a consumer film scanner can do.

What it comes with : The film strip holder and slide holder, USB and power cables, software CD and printed manual. Quite fast and easy to setup and start scanning, took me all of 3 minutes.

Considering inflation and product improvment, $1350 isn't overpriced. I still remember Coolscan IV cost about $1k plus about 8-10 years back. I'm also contemplating to get a Coolscan 5000 before they are all gone, just in case my almost 10 year old Coolscan 4000 die on me.

Cathay has one of their high end medium format scanners, forget which one. I think they only had one in stock, check with them.

Coolscans are actually quite high level scanners; I won't really consider them as "consumer level".

I once had a good coolscan III deal for S$300; but had to queue like crazy. I recall it was almost 10 yrs ago

You're lucky the V you got is USB. Mine is SCSI and after my old SCSI card disappeared, I have yet to use it :P I bought a new card but haven't had time to put it in :P

This little coolscan never ceases to impress me. Very nearly wet my pants when I saw the velvia scans, right out of the scanner. Here's one:

Will try and upload a full size image soon.
