Do you have the websites, email adds, etc for the "better hotels"?
    Thanks!

    Hello all,

I致e been reading abt the guide in Beijing.
I値l be in Beijing from 7th Dec 2009 for Business trip and I only have 1 weekend in Beijing.
So I would like to find out to visit Great Wall need one day?

Cos, I only have 1 weekend in Beijing. So I would like to know where will be best to visit?
Forbidden City? Great Wall? Tian Tan天坛? Or other places.
    Please kindly advice.

Since I値l visit Beijing for business trip.
I think should I bring my DSLR and tripod and keep in the hotel.
As I don't want to bring my DSLR along, since I will be in my Beijing Office the whole day (during the weekday)

BTW, I知 planning to stay in this hotel
    北京东方太阳城嘉宾国际
Guesthouse International- Beijing Oriental Sun City Hotel
Address: Oriental Sun City Community, Renhe Town, Shunyi District.

    Thanks.

Bro, Beijing will be freezing then, a simple P&S would be more convenient than a DSLR. I know cos I just came back from Shanghai. Due to drizzles and the coldness, I have no time to play with the settings and definitely appreciate the ease of my friends' compact P&S.

I never been to BeiJing.. But, if I only have one whole day, I will choose the forbidden city.

It depends on you. If you like old chinese style palace / architecture, forbidden city is the choice; if you like lanscape, great wall is the choice. I think there is a day tour can cover great wall and tian tan together if not wrong.

You may bring your dslr, but make sure you have a pair of fitting gloves that you can wear it yet still able to turn your dials

    Bro,

Thanks for the weather forecast update.
As I'm staying in Japan now.
Duration winter time I bring along my DSLR for shooting.
is cold and strong wind.... But I manage to shot using my DSLR.

I dont see any point why i have a DSLR and leave it at home.
and just bring my P&S camera... So what the point of owning a DSLR.

    BTW, thanks for the advice.....

Go Mutianya Segment of the Great wall. Quiet and uncrowded with the wall to yourself.

U r right on that, guess I was too ill-prepared for the cold, wind etc. Brought the wrong type of gloves, too thick! Sigh.....

Even then, my friends are not into DSLR so kind of difficult for them to wait for me to fidget around with the settings, paiseh hor.....

Plus with all the squeezing on metro, bus etc, I have a hard time protecting my 6 mil home. Very eventful and good learning experience for me to say. Haha.....

    Happy shooting.....

    hi rubber_duck,

i am at beijing now and can tell you that the weather is definitely cold over here. these few days can get pretty foggy especially in the evening and last couple of days are pretty foggy whole day, except for today

if you are going to the great wall, REMEMBER to wear something that can keep yourself warm and protection from the chilling wind at the same time. It is VERY cold up there. My recommendation is to get something to cover your head and ears also.

If you are visiting the tiananmen, you can also visit beihai park also since it is just beside it. After that if you have time, can visit houhai which is above beihai and tiananmen.

For shopping, can go xiu shui at yong an li station or hong qiao at tian tan station.

    Great wall and Forbidden City.....

Which part of the great wall will less ppl around?
For the Forbidden City... I always wanted to visit cos the movies "The Last Emperor"...

Tiananmen... I don't think that will be interesting for me.
For Shopping, I think I still perfer Tokyo....

i would choose mutianyu over badaling but i myself only went to badaling since i din go mutianyu due to some personal reason. but thats just me... also as i said earlier, it gets foggy at times so visibility up at the great wall may be a problem... as for the head gear, it is only needed when u go up the great wall due to the cold wind or travelling around at night. otherwise, during daytime it is still ok. good luck

Another good shopping spot for cheap clothes and shoewares is the Jin Kai Li De wholesale centre near the Beijing Zoo station along Beijing subway line 4. It is easily recognizeable by a bus terminal at its ground floor.

P.S. : Beijing is now very cold but too bad I did not experienced any snow for the past eight days.

    Is the snow still there???
    Or will be snowing again??

Thinking to bring my snow shoe along...
If the road cover with melted snow is
not safe to walk with noraml shoe.

Anyone can update the weather forecast in Beijing?
    If you are there now???
Will be in Beijing this Tuesday....
