Default Best options for B&W printing.

I miss the old stinky chemical darkroom days, and want to get back into B&W printing. From your experience, what printer(s) are recommended for luscious rich B&W prints, and what dedicated B&W inks are available around here? Any good papers to recommend specifically for B&W? Size/price etc are secondary. Quality is #1.

There is an interest group which discusses abt digital black and white printing. Perhaps you might wanna consider joining and explore the many options possible regarding b/w prints?

Yeah, checked that, but most of the B&W ink options don't seem to be available here in Sg? The Eboni inks for example... and the piezography inks are even available in Indonesia but not here.

Epson K3 inks. K3 stands for 3 blacks i believe. (K as in CYMK)

Epson just announced the imminent release of a successor to their legendary 3800 printer. The 3880 will be out at the end of the year. But i still like the 3800, the community support for this printer is great.

Check out Eric Chan's (an Adobe Lightroom developer) website for Advanced Black & White driver custom profiles for great tonal reproduction. http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan...wprofiles.html and his general notes for the 3800 http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan...800/index.html

Epson had been the leader since the dawn of digital printing (with the Epson Stylus Photo), but both HP and Canon are now on par. (or almost on par, depending who you ask.)
