Default How did he do it??!!

Does anyone have a clue at all how you can obtain the kind of colour range in this picture??...This shot was taken with a 5D MII and I'm sure the original did not turn out this way so obviously it was photoshopped...The question is how did he do it????!!

The detail, colour range, contrast, white balance just seem so perfect. I use a 5D but could never achieve this kinda results...

Shoot in RAW. Adjust WB any way you want. Recover highlights/shadows. And the last easiest thing you could do is apply auto-level for a quickfix...

You need to learn how to do good PP with with the software available. I would suggest starting out with something like Lightroom first. Where most of the tools are there and easily understood. Photoshop is a lot more complex but gives you more flexibility and more artistic leeway at your fingertips. A good book may help.

Also, lastly, Please do not repost other people's pictures without permission. Just link to his/her photo online. If he/she stated all rights reserved, you just broke the law by posting it here. If he/she stated creative commons, you broke the law by not crediting him/her on the photo.

    guys
thanks for all the replies. I actually shoot in RAW and use PS quite a bit (though not an expert). Therefore I just wanted to know if there's any technique that i'm unaware of to achieve such effects.

Thanks for reminding me about reposting pictures belonging to others, I didn't realise.

Try using a Neutral Density Filter.

    Hi Wei,

That photo looks normal to me, I don't think its HDR, maybe some minor tweaking of contrasts and tones using software. If its HDR, it will look even more striking.

I've been to New Zealand and the hot springs look very similar to that photo: very striking colours on the ground and very contrasted with the red earth, and the air quality there is superb, creating the best lights and contrasts for landscape photos.

Around Singapore area, its very hazy (even though we don't realise) and we don't get to see such beauty in nature. That's imho.

I'm on my mobile phone so can't see the picture in detail but it just looks like a good soft light from the overcast sky, some contrast and sharpening adjustments. No secret technique here.

JUst play with levels, and there is this thing called dodge and burn. very very useful.

Or you can use a Graduated ND filter when taking the photo.

The slight haloing around the hill tops does suggest that this could well be an HDR. But with HDR the clouds will be more pronounced. Could be a simple case of using multiple layers for the whole shot.
