Default FireWire 800 cable (both ends) 5 m .

Anyone knows where to get a good firewire 800 cable (on both ends ) 5 m ?
The new macbooks now come only with firewire 800 ports .
And No firewire 400 ports !
Now cannot find good cables to use with it .
Yes , bought some short ones from SL but they are very stiff and breaks easily .

I use a firewire 800 to 400 adapter on the new macbook pro to connect to my 5m firewire 400. Cos my digital back do not have firewire 800

I asked around SL they have the FW800 to 400 5m but stock have not arrived, waiting for it. As for 800 to 800 5m I am sure there are. Know how to go there but cannot remember the level and shop name. But the shop sells cable, incl 5m usb cables and alot of type of cable. If they don't have most likely others is SL will not have too.

Hope it helps.

I have checked at various places and they do not have a long firewire 800 cables in Singapore. Stocks take forever to arrive and I've been quoted $250 for one cable? Eventually, I found them online at this website:

http://www.firewire-1394.com/firewir...94b-cables.htm

If you have experienced trouble with your FW connection and having to reset your back all the time, based on my experience so far, the cable I received is very stable and despite being coiled up in a bundle (I bought the 32ft cable), the connection works fine without having to restart the camera/back. I notice that the 32ft cable has been described as "triple shielded", so that may be the reason why the connection is better and has lesser interference.

If you are using a Hassy, you may need to use a pen knife to shave off the rubber housing on one end in order to fit the plug into the FW housing in the back.

They also have 800-400 cables so you do not have to use adapters with the new macbooks(which adds to the connection problems). I believe long 800-400 wires are even more rare than 800-800.....

haha yes 32 ft is good, can be a bi@#h to keep and bundle up but it allows you to run and roam freely without fear of tugging the cable off or pulling the laptop off the stand.

Just got the FW 400 / 800 (5m) cable from SLS for $45 - from USB CAble & Accessories @ #04-18, they have another shop at #06-59.

it's annoying man, after my friend went all the way to simlim to get it.
the digital back reads 'storage medium missing'.

but yeah apparently the length of the cable has got something to do with it.

then maybe the sim lim cable is different from the one I bought from the website. the 32ft cable works perfectly fine for me.
