Thread: brand/model recommendation needed.

  1. #1

    Default brand/model recommendation needed.

Which brand/model is recommended for newbies that will actually be practical for long-term?

Can give us any reason why you think one brand would be less practical than the other for long-term?
    Exploring! :)

I don't think that one is lesser than the other, but for one, I've never really trusted Sony products. And since I'm new, I'd just love to hear different views as different people might think that one'd be better than the other.

Don't treat cameras like commodities, unless you are a professional (a photographer by profession), it will always be an expense. However if you are going to buy a lot of accessories (I mean a lot), the practical things to look for will be:

After sales services, repair cost, long term compatibility, sharing similar brand with your community hobbyists and price per use.

If you are one that is always doubtful, go for the high end models to cover all your needs. And if one is worry about being criticized for buying a wrong brand, then follow what your community buys.

If you don't trust Sony then don't buy Sony lor, there are still Pentax and Olympus around. If you want something very common then go for Nikon or Canon lor. But what is your budget and what do you want to shoot first?
    Minolta. Konica Minolta. Sony

All brands will serve you well. As a newbie your skills are the limiting factors, not the camera model or the brands.
Can you define your "long term practicability"? All cameras and lenses can serve many years, provided that you treat them well. Of course, if you start with entry models then upgrading for certain features might come after some times. Keep in mind: DSLR is a system of camera, lenses and accessories. Some are interchangeable, some will only work within one brand. Don't compare with consumer stuffs that gets replaced every 6 months.

Before asking this question you need to decide something
    1. Budget
    2. Compact / prosumer / DSLR
    3. Brand.

These are very basics category which you need to know first.

    First of all through my experience;

    1. Read camera reviews.
    2. Call up local Services see how good the responsive is.
    3. Bad customer services means bad product. I know this because i'm working in a manufacturing plant.
    4. Lastly your Budget.

I can't say which brand is good or not it's up to individual.

I am a Nikon D90 user. (I have spent a lot than my budget on the lenses and accessories most of them are on credit hahahahahaha) poor me

If you think you wanna check out DLSR camera try check out Orient Photo or Harvy Norman (can use credit card for Harvy hahaha)

    1. Orient Photo (there are 2 PRC salesman there) ask them u dun buy they dun give "that look". Plus they dun recommend things that you do not ask. (means you wont get physco)

    2. Harvy Norman (you can use your credit card and helpful salesman)

    Just my 2 cents

If you have noticed, no one recommends you any brand after so many posts. This forum is very sensitive. No one wants to get caught in a brand war.

Read online reviews and shortlist a few cameras that you like. Then ask for opinions (If you still cannot decide). I think you will get better results this way.

Can leave out Nikon as well since almost all Nikon uses Sony sensor.

If you can't make up your mind, just buy the make that all your friends use... Haha!
