I was waiting for the EZ-Link GIRO for the new cepas ezlink card.

In the end, this new card was a new way of making more money, EZ-Reload, reload more money from the passengers.

Well, its a new system thought out by a brain child to score point.

Other than walking, biking, blading or hitching free rides, there simply is no other option.

Just remember to retire and die in JB cheaply.

Actually, you can setup the GIRO, but try not to use it.

That is, whenever possible, go to ATM to top up so that you avoid paying the "convenient fee". But in the event that one forgets to do so, there is still the GIRO to the rescue so that one doesn't get stranded in some ulu place with no value in the farecard.

minimum top up of ez link card at atm is $5

    at gtm is $10.

btw, hong kong, london, these are the places i know definitely have card system, i don't see much issue with stored value for transportation.. but yes, proliferation just for the sake of proliferation is a problem. so long as there are returns to the consumer, there should be no issue though. for example, the kopitiam card gives discounts. the ezlink card has lower fares compared to paying cash fare or single tickets.

in places like paris, i am not sure if they have stored value cards, but you can also purchase "multiple tickets".. you pay the money first (heck, you may not even use it).. but your average fare drops.

Thought of that, but there's still a deposit to be paid, equals to the top-up amount!

HK's octopus card has much more facility in use than our ezlink card.

Also, discount or markup is hard to say. For example, at SLS, they say you cannot use credit card or they will add 3%. some shops say they give you 3% discount for using cash. It can be either a discount or markup; depending on who you use as your marketing expert.

According to the website Q5, the 25 cents is applicable only to "Auto Credit Card Top-up"? There is no mention of 25 cents for Giro.

    Is the FAQ outdated?

Don't bother to look at the website bro. If you're a Giro ezlink user, you'll soon receive notification from them. In it will have all the charges that you need to bear.

    ok got their reply

    Dear Harry,

    Thank you for your email.

The $0.25 convenience fee as well as the application and admin fee of $2.00 is not just to cover the bank charges but also to include the overall processing costs incurred by EZ-Link for the provision of this service. However in the first 6 months, the application fee will be waived to help facilitate the sign up for this new service offered by EZ-Link by cardholders who were previously on the TransitLink Bank GIRO facility.

Thank you for taking time to provide us with your valuable feedback. We will forward your feedback to the relevant department for their consideration and action if necessary.

Once again, thank you for taking time to share your views with us.

If you have further queries, please feel free to email us at customerservice@ezlink.com.sg or call us at 6496 8300 between 8.00am to 6.00pm daily except public holidays. In case you need to call outside these hours, you could leave a voicemail with us and we will get back to you by the next working day.

    Thanks and regards,

isn't it cheaper to just get a backup minimum stored value card?

Due to the nature of the technology (wireless), it's not feasible to put 2 card in the same place (i.e. wallet). There may be interference or wrong deductions/transactions.

If put in different place (like pocket/bag), there is high chance that the user forgets to carry it (unless the person always carry a bag and always the same bag, or always put the backup card in the correct clothing for the next trip).
