Unhappy Which want to buy? A80 or S50?

Hi All!

Want to get a digital cam. The last one I have was a A40, very good but time to upgrade. Can't decide whether to get a A80(familiar feature, nice grip and AA batteries is good advantage especially outdoor shoot) or S50(5MP, total stranger to it). Anyone familiar with this two camera please advice.

Is RAW really that good? I have been using jpegs(A40) all this while. Don't know what is RAW. Is the RAW image quality is better(sharper) than jpeg's if shot with same camera, for example, S50?

if you are comfortable with A40, then handling the A80 will be a breeze in the park.

RAW pictures are good for editing (useful if you always edit your pictures).. and it takes up a hell lot of space in your CF. much will depends on what you do with your digicam. if A40 serves you well, i don't see why A80 will not.. and not to mention the price diff of $200 between the 2.

Lightbulb Agree

Hi Thanks for the reply.

There was no reply pass 1 or 2 days so based on my own judgement, I bought a A80 on 31/12.

True enough, A80 is very similar to A40 with a lot more bonus. Feel like a dSLR with limitations. There is manual focus! Very good when doing close up. There's two Custom programming switch but have not figure out how to use it.

Image quality is a tad less contrasty compared to a s50's.

I am very happy with it, both as a point and shoot with some creative options.

Congrats for your new camera. The C1 and C2 is to store you commonly use settings. Just select any shooting mode, adjust the settings to your preferences, press MENU and scroll down (or simply press UP once) then you can save the settings to any of the two Custom mode.
