Pro90is Firmware update help

I'm planning to upgrade firmware for my Pro90is.
Just incase something doesn't work well, how can
restore the original firmware ?

Is it possible to backup the original firmware before
upgrading. Canon website don't tell anything on backup / restore.

Appreciate any feedback from Pro90 users upgraded to
firmware ver 1.0.0.3. I read somewhere the update
causes problem supporting 3rd party ext flashes.
Are the improvements very significant ?
