If your tripod column does not start sinking after you have added the camera and the stuff you are going to hang on the hook, the tripod column should be able to support that weight.
Just be mindful that there is an additional weight at the other end of the tripod column when you release the column locking mechanism to adjust your camera position. The additional downward pulling force on the tripod column created by the additional weight might just pull and slam the tripod head onto the neck of the tripod. The impact sustained is as good as dropping the camera.

Good idea. Will keep that in mind. I might just sling the strap around the tripod collar since I don't have a hook at the center column.

In terms of physics, the bag hung on the tripod will stablize cause it lowers the centre of gravity of the whole setup. Using a camera setup too heavy for your tripod means your centre of gravity is too high and can cause instablity, so hanging a heavy bag stabilizes. So "theoretically", the heavier the bag the better.......but.......

If the the bag is too heavy, the legs of the tripod might not take it and will give way. So must find a balance...
Dun blame the camera...blame the one behind the viewfinder :bsmilie:

Why not put the 6KG weight on the floor, and tie a strong string securely from the hook to the handle of your bag? By using the bag as an "anchor", you have additional weight "holding" on to your tripod without your tripod actually "supporting" the additional weight.

not sure whether you know what I mean.

Daredevil123 bro, that is a great idea! Using bicycle hooks! Wonderful. Thank you.
