    Seawatermark,
    Don't you worry.
Newbie newbie lah. You know, many people buy a camera system and use it twice a year for their holidays. Don't even know where is which button.
Going for these travel photography trips give you two benefits: 1. forces you to familiarise yourself with your camera and improve your techniques by leaps and bounds with the experienced instructors stressing you at the side (haha!), 2. Enjoy these trips from angles you will never be able to do so alone or with normal tour groups.
As a newbie, or also known as Very Serious Amateur Photographer (VSAP - my Photography Course instructor's words), just gar-gar go.
After one trip, you will want to go for a second trip and third and forth...
Too bad I don't own a travel photography business. I am but just one of their many customers.

only very nice and patient people will teach.
if you dont read manual eventually very patient one will also lose patience.
esp when they are shooting nobody really want to answer question as they are busy with their own shoot.
i went before (not arranged by canon - it felt it is arranged by nikon due to the sheer number of nikon user - and I am using olympus - and noobie too for dslr - but I have use a mode and s mode on my prosumer before la) and nobody can teach me. advertised lesson will be provided but in the end no lesson. at night all drink beer. i just find one corner and check my pic and learn what is good and what is not - worse no internet so ...

the trip is good though, i enjoy and got nice shots, models (non pro lah just villagers, monks) & set are arranged nicely.
food also nice, but careful got lost of dust!

So many terms and conditions, exemption/exclusion clauses at a relatively high cost; I wonder how can this be viably interesting to people.

one man's meat is another man's poison...

some may still find it viable... ppl who dun aspire to be a chef also pay top money to learn cutlery skills... likewise, ppl who use point & shoot may pay up to 100x the cost of the camera to learn how to use it like us.

That is of course true; and no matter how crap any particular deal is, there's always people to go for it; e.g. nigerian scams.

However, it is my opinion that it will not be viable to a majority of people.

Yes. True. Certainly one can't expect to be spoon fed.
I believe it is not possible to expect to go for such a trip totally newbie and come back a pro. Have to practise on your own to attained a certain level of understanding.
The organiser/photog/instructor are, in my opinion, there to give their tips and insights.
Thus those who may benefit are those who are already making efforts to shoot and practise.

I think there are some people who would just like to go and try to learn whatever come their way, and at the same time just take the opportunity to tavel, and also take the chance to socialise at night (drink beer and chit chat etc. etc..).

Nothing wrong with that, but take a look at the T&C and cost before deciding.

Fly Silk Air, stay in 4 star hotel with internet access (in case ur not aware in Myanmar no phone roaming unless u use their local phone) photo set-up everyday by local pro, local transport plus 3 internal flights....all u hav to pay in USD....u think u still can do 3 trips from Canon SG SGD2400 costing?

if you can swim across that lake and do some TFCD shooting of that lady and come back alive, then the $2,400 would be a good investment .... but then again, you will send that poor lady into exile again .... but at least you will know that your 1 series is weather/water proofed!
    always the Light, .... always.

Haha... I was simply using a metaphor in my description. Not to calculate everything in such detail. But thanks for pointing that out.
