    unless they were in a boat, a few hundred yards from shore, your kit lens should be fine.

    That depend how far or near is your this group of people?
    Face only, half body or full body?
    How much bokeh you want?

    18mm can what..

    if you walk further away anything also can.......

    depends on what you want!

    give us more restrictions, if not how to help you?

    i can use 800mm lens with 2x TC to shoot people far far away on the mountain jumping.

    the cardboard box explode sooner or later. so don't need fisheye lens, just patience.

    Just break your piggy bank, and buy :
    17-50 mm f/2.8
    or 24-70 mm f/2.8

    You won't regret it. As long you have the gold
