Quite sad when i see those photos.

Here is one that is not that serious, but still noticeable at the branches. I have some pics where the whole branch (the thinner one) is purple in color Can anyone tell me how i can prevent from getting such purple color again? Thanks
Pick a different background rather than against the sky?

Think toshio217 is more concern of his birding shots (not other photography) with strong backlight, so choosing a different background is not applicable.

Oh icic! Isn't shooting against strong backlight causing those purple fringe that he is concern? Oops, not an expert in birding, will let others do the talking, hehe

setup: vivitar 105, kenko 1.5x TC, metz 48 + DIY bounce card, diffuser.

found this katydid near singapore quarry (near dairy farm) today

very cute fella. this pic was my favourite cos it highlights the long, slender legs.

    cropped:

take away the kenko 1.5 and move closer, likely you have better IQ. The cropped picture would have been sharper as you will need a lesser light power without the kenko 1.5 teleconverter. My imho

agree with your assessment... i'm mainly using the TC to get 1:1 with less effort

with the TC, i still have the last 1/2 to 1/4 round of the focusing ring to play with and more working distance.

without the TC, have to focus out all the way and shift back and forth till i find the min-focusing distance. by the time i shift the tripod and get the right distance, insect may fly away already end up missing shots rather than getting sharper pix.

skills not there yet... will practice more.

good effort. the stacking is much better. except some shadow at the hind legs, cant really tell. try to shoot outdoor more often. the air is fresher.

photography sometimes is an expression or visualisation of our mind. seeing your LLF series, i can say 60% of your mind is filled with copulation images!

nice effort. if you lower the contrast & increase the fill light, you can lift up more details at the dark shadow on the lovers' body.

these are taken with a lens I helped someone to acquire... just testing the lens to make sure that its a sharp copy before i pass to him

to cut the long story short, i was pleasantly surprised by this lens... images are sharp (as macro lenses tend to be), colours are vibrant, OOF areas is smooth and handling is pretty excellent. it has a long focus throw so MF is great

its a PK lens, so obviously, no A contact, can't set aperture with body and p-ttl won't work properly... naturally, with a lens like that, it takes more effort to use, but once u get the hang of it, its pretty sweet.

my main issue with this lens is that like all short macro lenses, min focusing distance is pretty short and the lens gotta be practically right on top of the subject in order to focus at 1:1. this is challenging when dealing with shy insects.

anyone used this lens before? any views to share?

    Panagor 55mm F2.8 macro
all shots taken at between F8 - F11. Exposure: 1/125, ISO: 200. Flash on M mode.

yah lah.... it happens. how do u like the ones taken with the panagor 55mm that i posted?

i like the first one... the shiny fly. i've been struggling to catch the details on that one but always end up with blurred pix cos its so small and the reflective body always messes it up.

    finally got a decent one.
