How do we pay a referer. Say that he / she runs a studio but doesn't do AD wedding.
Do you pay a flat "ang pow" amount or a %? |

I would pay a flat amount for every order that he/she generates for you. Not sure how much you charge - but somewhere in the 10-20% range seems reasonable for referral type of business. And you only pay him, after you have received your money from the client ;-)

as a matter goodwill you can give him a token amount,
but make it a nice number, and maybe a amount you think is reasonable to your earnings.

if you know your own value, there is no need to lower your income grading.
say normally you charge $400 for a shoot, but have to chip off 10% i.e. $40 for commission. so to retain your usual fee, you mark up to $450 and pass on the 10%, still retain normal profit. why charge this way ? your ego and passion in doing the job will not be tarnished bcoz you do not feel being short change for your output and skill. win-win situation. |

10%?
My understanding is it's 5%. Even in other industries. |

Hello Jekyll69,
Afraid you are wrong, there's no standard. Furthermore, some social/commercial circles (professional photography included) don't work on referral fees. There's a quid pro quo kind of thing that goes on. When you recommend a job to a wedding planner, photographer, framer, etc you will get a favor in return for the long term. This is a "ren qing" thing, no standard.
Give how much you think is ok.

I normally give a little bit extra to my referer. If you want more jobs from them , well you must know how to " 会做人". This kind of thing very straight forward 1.. no standard rates. Anyway dont try to be cheapo with them, for this part no need to explain more. I guess you know what I mean.
