Thread: is 1 month too long for turnaround time for camera servicing

Default is 1 month too long for turnaround time for camera servicing

recently sent my camera for servicing for the local agent and it took them about 2 weeks to fault find, and in the end, just told me main board is spoil, and got to change the mainboard for close to SGD500.
After getting it back, it's not working, and sent it back and waited another 3 more weeks , they just kept telling me cannot find out what's wrong.
It was finally fixed within 2 working days when i threaten to take the camera back and send it to the country of origin to fix.
Do you guys think this kind of service is acceptable?
Should I demand for at least some discount?

Hell no man!~ Seriously i dont believe that this kind of service is even close to anything "reasonable" let alone acceptable. If they are an established company with a Service Centre, they should be able to have resources on hand to find out whats wrong with the camera and possibly find a solution to it, other than going "Dont know whats wrong with it." sounds plain dumb to me. If i were you, id ask for a full refund for the Mainboard or something or at least a form of compensation.

Why are they charging you $500 if they can't fix the problem??

I was at CSC one time and this lady besides me was demanding some sort of 'compensation' cause she can't use her camera
to take photos during her holidays as it broke down again after repair. She was bringing in for a 2nd time I think.

    1 month...siao ah, so incompetent

that's the cost of changing the parts...
the thing is they didn't even fix the camera properly...
the thing is i have not paid yet, because i found out about the problem before i made the payment.
and to be exact, it's about than 43 days
    close to 1.5month already
i think i should demand for some discount for the bill
    taking too long to fix...

Are they even providing you with a temporary camera? What are you using in the meantime? This is gross incompetence...

    This is extremely poor service.
You should have a big quarrel with them then still not happy, call CASE and Shin Min Daily News in front of them.

That's what I did to Bally photo when they "chopped" my friend few weeks back.

one is service center, one is camera shop.

one is didn't do a good job,
    one is "chop" people.

    two different issues.

IMO one month is too long for any service center to service local, but if the shop send to overseas, then maybe can justify.

But the charge is too expensive for me.

all i can say now is it's a medium format camera, about 4-5 years old... and i am not going to reveal any name for the time being...
my camera is still with them, and i am going to collect it tomorrow. will talk to them and see what they have to offer to compensate for the long servicing turnaround time. I am sure they have staffs who are surfing the website so not taking any chance at the moment.
and they do not have any replacement set, even after i asked for it.
will keep you guys posted about the outcome tomorrow....

1 mth and longer is Leica standard .... send to US, Swedish, Japanese specialist workshops or back to motherland in Germany ..... and back already

Not protecting the manufacturer but without knowing full details from BOTH sides of the story... lets not rush to point fingers

TS might want to quote the brand and a Service Request or Reference Number. .... couple of us could make a couple of calls to find out why their client has been left hanging for more than a month causing them potential bad publicity in a major photography forum.

First of all, i have no intention of causing them any bad publicity, thus the refusal of naming the camera brand or service centre. just seeking the fellow forumers' opinion about the long wait for camera to be serviced.

The service centre is based here in Singapore. I had the "Technician Cannot Figure Out What's Wrong With The Camera" reason for 2 weeks before they call and inform me that mainboard need to be changed for close to $500. And after it was changed, they called and told me it's ok already, and in the end, not working again. I am not even going to to start b*t*hing about the 2 wasted trips they made me go down for. And the reason i got from them for the next 3 weeks was "Technician Cannot Figure Out What's Wrong With The Camera". Why was it miraculously fixed when i threatened to take the camera back and send it to the country of origin to get it fixed? perfect timing or something else? your call...

Lastly, i am sorry but i don't see the need for anyone beside myself to call and find out what's wrong, since it is my camera that is in the service centre. Thanks for offering.

I will go and have a chat with staff at the service centre tomorrow, and see what do they have to offer for the long waiting time. and if i am really unhappy with the outcome, I will definitely start another thread and vent all my anger out, and by then, some of you guys here will be able to find out who/what/where/when/how about the issue.
