Hi there, am looking for a budget wide angle zoom lens, maybe 19-35, 17-35 or someting along those lines, so long as its as cheap as possible.

anyone can recommend a good model/brand of wide angle zooms that are not too crappy in terms of quality and yet not tat exepsnive too?
    3rd party lenses probably.

    tks!

For 19-35 there are mainly the Tokina, Tamron and vivitar 19-35. Of which Vivitar is the cheapest, but the build and quality is the lowest too. Tokina is good to a certain extend, was selling for 388 at Cathey. However, Tokina has been known for flares too. Tamron should be the best build for the 19-35 range, the prices ranges from $370 - $390, largely depending on the age of the stock, the older ones was selling for $370 due to lower US exchange rate.

17-35 ...... the two main 17-35 are Sigma and the up coming Tamron which ranges at around $750 - $950. (For new ones)...... Did not managed to try the Tamron as it is not in Singapore yet. Personally don't like the Sigma 17-35 f/2.8 - 4 ......

Currently using 17-40L until Tamron come out .... then decides if I want to buy Tamron and sell 17-40L or not .... but other then the slight slow fstop, it is a very good lens .....

Warpped too much ...... strong flares at open end, receive decent pics only at f/8 ...... no wonder Sigma is coming up with and "updated" edition of sigma 17-35 to be in the market (Japan) in late Dec

And maybe I am just not lucky with Sigma .... with all the good reviews of 15-30mm ..... I had the honour to be getting a lemon copy of it ...... hehehe .... sold it off, surprisingly the new owner is happy with it .... then last month trying to get one 15-30 again too .... hehehehe .... but in the end, settled for 17-40L ...... fabulous lens . Well .... that will most probably be until 17-35DI come out then see to give it up and go for 17-35DI or not .
