Default C-5060 gone crazy!!!

My 2-week old C-5060 had gone crazy...again!!!
Yup, the original one bought from Harvey Norman in late November 2003 "hanged" within 5 days. The camera dept manager at HN was kind enough to replace another new set for me, but the supposedly "good set" went berserk yesterday...and guess what...same problems as the first one!!!

Symptoms are:
1. Program mode hangs in it's last mode when trying to switch to other modes using the mode dial.
2. Direction pad button not responding when pressed.
3. AF mode/macro/exposure buttons on the left side of the camera not responding most of the time.
4. The menu will pop out for no apparant reason.
5. The cam will sometimes function properly if I switch is off and turn it back on. But the next time when I try to used it, the above symptoms reappear.

Apart from the problems above, I think it's a very capable prosumer camera. But I just want to let you folks to be aware of these technical problems if you are considering it on your next purchase.

Anyway, I'll be going to Olympus service centre on saturday to get it sorted out. Will try to find out more from them and keep you posted.

Bye for now

Please keep us updated. Your case and Slash99's recount really gives me the creep. I just got the 5060 and presently still am working fine, and producing very good quality pics, and night shots. Mode dial, direction pad, and AF mode/macro/exposure buttons are still working fine...

Pls update us...thanks

I believe it to be a batch problem. Was at a camera shop in town where i overheard the same problem being described. The shop assistant then mentioned that he wasn't the first customer to return his set or face the same problem.

I am not too sure of the vericity but maybe someone could go ask Olympus to clarify if this is really the case?

My 5060 LCD went black when I swivelled it.
This was only about 2 weeks after purchase.
(about a 1.5months ago).

I sent it in to Oly and they fixed the "contact" problem in about 2 days.
Works fine now. No problems after that.
Agreed....very capable camera. Luv it.

My first cam's last 4 digit of the serial no. is 114...something, can't remember exactly. The current one is 1178.

If it's a batch problem as what Wolfgang suggested, then let the potential buyer be aware of serial numbers between this range.

Gentlemen, i mentioned that it "could" be a batch problem as i over heard it being mentioned but please don't jump to any conclusions or take my word as absolute.

For those with problems, just sent it in for repair or for exchange. Beyond that, there isn't any reasont o panic or worry. The 5060 is a good camera.

Keep shooting.

I went to Oly Svc Ctr today and the nice customer service officer replaced the faulty set on the spot after a quick inspection and reassured me that the new set is from the latest batch without the above problems. She even push forward the 1-year warranty period wef from today.

I walked out of the glass door with a big smile on my face.

Been using the 5060 for a couple of weeks....shot more than a thousand pics....played with the B/W, Sephia, Blackboard, whiteboard, 2in1, panorama, Macro, Supermacro, MF etc...swivelled the panel umpteen times....and whola!!!! Still no problem! And the batt is real solid!!!!!!!!! Also...all 5060 users are strongly advised to buy at least the 40.5mm UV filter (any brand) to protect the lens. Cool babe! Good pics! Nice construction too! I think HLD20 will come in useful....but I think I cannot use tripod with the batt holder...I confess that i dun have a pair of real sturdy hands...

hi!

So.. u mean the problems with the hanging occurs only in that particular batch?

Other than that, this cam is okay?

I don't really like its shape though..it looks kinda bulky

Sure at the 1st look of the camera i have the same impression too. Too boxy. However, after trying it, i love the feel of it. maybe my palm is on the big side. Now my final setup is done and i love it even better. Looks bulky yo may say. Check it out here!

My friend who have a 10D commented it looks like a small sizze DSLR and light-weight compared to 10D. I'm loving it more and more each moment.

Try it. Don;t be decieved by look. Yo may like the feel.
