It is a peak season now and this weekend being a long weekend, Genting is usually booked. U need to book way ahead.

Can go Cameron Highlands by bus, stay in the smokehouse lodge or strawberry park. It will take you abt 8hrs by coach.

Good to take a flyt to Penang. There are some backpackers' lodging there.

kuching and kota kinabalu flights on tiger and airasia are still very cheap (about S$220 roundtrip all tax incl...) and available

if u travel to these places outside of peak holidays, the fare drops to less than S$100 roundtrip

have courage and travel further........ cheaper too compared to genting

Yes, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu is located at East Malaysia, 2 beautiful place you can consider.
For Penang, it is mainly the food, and if you like photograph of heritage, there got plenty to offer.
