The thing that i fear the most, is that my pictures will bore you to death...

This reminds me of the days of National Socialist German Workers Party.

I think Adolf Hitler banned people from deleting or locking threads. That was because no one dared to give a bad comment on his photos.

And copycats of his works tended to disappeared in the night and never to be seen again.

Of course Adolf won all the first prizes of all the photo competitions organised by National Socialist German Workers Party.

(d) or both parties agree to disagree. Its a question of how much energy and effort you want to put into the "crusade" and what outcome you desire to achieve.

And the irony of the whole thing is - most of these fights are about opinions.. and i say again opinions. There is no absolute right / wrong Or is there ? If we put this to a debate proper with university students and debators, do you think either party will submit and say ... "Oops ..OH yeah .. you are right ...."

So perhaps this is argument for argument sake

well, this is undoubtedly a grey issue, but all points should be presented. that is only polite.

so if i think something is not good, maybe a discussion could be held, pointers suggested, person who gets the comments can choose to receive them, or if he disagrees, explain why. just see how it's done in my latest Upper Seletar Reservoir thread, there is nothing wrong with commenting, no picture is perfect, and there is always room to improve.

the only time when comments are not welcome (and will get the stick from me) is when the intention is obviously malicious. for example, one joker once came in commenting on a photo, the points he mentioned were nitpick-style, and even had the cheek to tell me that there was a better version elsewhere, and showed his friend's photo. it was obvious enough that that was a response to comments i had posted on that joker's group's photo thread that he did not like, so his way of childish retaliation was to post something negative for the sake of doing so. and thus, he was told off.

why do online arguments in singapore turn ugly? the key reason is ad hominem attacks, it seems like people cannot differentiate opinions on their work from opinions on their personage, they choose to take personal offense and then throw personal comments in response.. ending up being defensive.

just look at how this discussion between you and me is progressing. a lot has been thrown up , and yes, it has been thrown up time and time again, but there are no personal comments. that's what rushdie meant, and that's the way it should be.

unfortunately, not everyone is going to be always so mature. that's life.

Just remember that in the 7th months many thing beside fruits, tofu, cakes etc. on the roadside have gone missing.

Maybe you should get a medium to communicate with the other world about the missing threads.

But after that people are so fed up with him locking the threads and winning all the photo competitions that they began to start underground threads to C&C on his photos and start their own mini competitions

Come to think of it Adolf Hitler's photos were pretty lame.

All his XMMS had fear in their eyes and were very stiff. He must had soldiers pointing guns at them to pose.

But the incident did not happened in the 7th month..

Anyway.. it has became quite common nowadays that pple created threads.. then delete it.. Guess it's easier to accept it as a new trend.. I suspect the threads that is related to this thread has gone missing too..

Tried using internet as the medium to search.. but no valid

If the CS mediums not interested.. better let it rest lah..

Yep.. there are so many different types of people out there.

To further add to your point, not everyone can take what is being dished out, but also of relevance is not everyone knows how to dish them out without making them sound personal. So the problem could lie with the "commentor" as well as the "commentee". Rude begets rude so to speak.
