Default Strobe for PT-015

Hi guys, will be getting housing for my C-5050Z soon, and am wondering how well the camera takes pictures underwater w/o a strobe?

I read somewhere that the effective range of the internal flash is about 3 feet before starting to get back-scatter, anyone has tried it before?

Another question, what strobe are you guys using currently and recommend?

Thanks in advance!!

I think what you was told is not absolutely true. The last time I dived Payar, I was taking macro using my internal flash of about 10cm distance and I still have lots of back scatters problem, mainly due to the extremely high concentration of floating particles.

What is your budget like?

Budget is about S$600 max, with the base tray and optical cable in.

Was the water at Payar very murky?

Actual visibility in the water then was about 3-5m. Someone told me that they were doing some major renovation and construction over the other side of the island.

For that budget, I was advise to stick to my internal strobe. If you insist on getting one, you might want to try Epoque, someone was trying to organise a mass ordering sometime back.

Internal flash range depends on quite a few factors, like visibility of water, amt of particles in water, ambient light.....
But as I was told, anything object more then 1.5m away is almost impossible to be lit by the strobe.

As long the object you are taking is far (the further away, the more particles in bewteen your lens and object), the more backscatter, unless your water you dive in is super clear. So that why macro shots usually have less backscatter for this reason.

However, the internal flash is partially blocked by the lens barrel while shooting macro, so, the soultion: spend more $$$, buy a strobe

Goondoo, what would be the expected pricing for the YS-90DX or YS-90Auto strobe?

Package including tray, flexi arm, fiber optic cable and YS90Auto is about S$1150. Not sure but think strobe alone is about S$750-800?
