Thats a Great Egret (Egretta alba) I think. (hope I got the ID correct, do correct me if I'm wrong). Commonly seen around the West side of Singapore, congregate in numbers at places like the open field beside Chinese Garden (or issit Lakeside?) MRT and around JBP, and like you mentioned, NTU area too.

hi, my bet it's a cattle egret, bubulcus ibis. had some of these fellas in my photos before, the buffish colour on the neck and head gives them away. only buffish during mating season?

correct me if i'm wrong..

Yah these guys are everywhere....from fields to canals and even saw a couple sitting on the expressway lamp posts. Who knows one day they make overtake mynahs and crows as the 'most common bird in Singapore'

BTW s_wrx, you may be right in your ID. This fella doesn't really resemble a Great Egret that closely. The buffish colour especially. Any bird experts care to comment?

I need a big white mama too.

sehsuan: pengz.. u watch too much Buffy liao issit?

hmm.. the egrets are seasonal? some stay here all year long, but it's only at this time of the year that you see LOADS of them!

just like some other "friendly" buzzards and bazas..

PS, the buffish colour is seasonal too.. especially during the mating season.. just like the baya weavers' yellowish head..
