Default Filter in front of close up filter

Hi just wondering how many of you put an additional protection filter like 77 MRC B+W UV in front of their close up filters (eg. 500D)? Is it a crazy idea given the cost?

It's a waste of time and money

Given that you're working in close there will be no UV haze to worry about for a start. Secondly it's another optical surface to reduce light transmission and add to any other optical abberations the close up filter may have.
