Default Need help in digitizing

Hi, i have a tape that i want to capture to my computer for a simple editing. I only have a small camcorder and my camcorder couldn't read or playback the tape bcos it was shot in HDV. I found out that the cameraman used a Sony HVR Z1P.

What is recommended(cheapest possible) camera that enable me to digitize this tape, and where can i rent it?
Will be gd if anyone is able to help me with the digitizing too. Do let me know, pm me.
Thanks.

Probably a Canon HV20 could do the trick. You will need RAID array and minimum duo core processor to edit and playback HD smoothly though.

You don't need RAID for editing HDV, the data rate is the same as DV, i.e. 25Mbps. You do need a fairly good processor, though nowhere near what you need for AVCHD.

DV is a fairly old technology which means just about any software works with it. Can use iMovie or even Windows MovieMaker to Import the clips. Can also download 30 days trial software of Premiere or Vegas or anything else to try before buy if you need advanced features.

as long the camcorder clearly states it will record HDV usually means it can playback HDV as well.

Not necessary...
There are two different standards in HDV...JVC's 720P which they call ProHD and Sony/Canon's 1440.
I have encountered Canon's 25P footage being unable to playback with the 1st generation HVR-M25 VTR that doesn't support progressive mode.

Thread starter mentioned that the Z1 camera was used to record footage...so if somehow footage was recorded in 1080/60i, a regular 1080/50i (PAL) camera won't be able to playback the tape.

Best bet is to rent a Z1 camera and use it for the tape capture.
