Which feature or function (of any other lens) are you missing or is required for your shooting?

if you don't know what you want, don't change anything now. |

I am a newbie to DSLR also.
Am using the 18-105mm till i got the 50mmF1.8 prime lens. After tt the 18-105mm never got out of my dry cabinet liaoz as i seem to be getting better pictures from my 50mmF1.8 all the time. Of course the composition and range of the prime lens is definitely losing out to the original kit lens. But either i was not able to maximize or master the kit lens, hence i have stuck with my 50mm prime. The 18-105mm is supposedly a good lens but somehow not my cup of tea. Hence now my quest for a sharper zoom lens. This is my reason, what's your? If there is no reason, then don't change i guess hahaha. One mountain got one mountain taller than the other, operate within your means and you will know when to scale the next mountain. Just my 2cts worth. cheers, kilkenny

ok, since you are using Nikon, consider getting 14~24 f2.8, 24~70 f2.8, and the 70~200 f2.8, plus a SB900, probably you will not need anything else for the next few years.
if you still have extra cash, consider the 16mm f2.8, 85mm f1.4 for your next purchase. |

if you want zoom, and are on a budget, get the 55-200 with or without VR.
the 70-300 will do too, VR or the basic 70-300, which will come into matter depending on your camera. (D40 & D60 has no af-motor built in so it can't af the basic 70-300 G) the 18-55 is a great lens for the price. absolutely love it.

imo.... my ideal dx setup will bt this
18-200 VR (all range zoom) tokina 11-16 2.8 (landscape) 50 1.4 (portraits) sb600 maybe a 1.7x or 2.0x converter if you want to boost the zoom range....

u seem very indecisive when it comes to lenses, if that is the case, i suggest u just go get a SB600. Good usage of flash will greatly improve ur experience in dSLR systems, as well as ur pictures. Sb600 is not very expensive, has good re-sale value and is very handy in many situations.
