With the rumor of D300s going to be released anytime soon, is it advisable to buy new D300 now? When D300s is available, for sure D300 price will decrease, won't it? What do you think?

The 's' upgrade is a minor upgrade and many of the new features would probably be available via a firmware upgrade as well. Of course, there may be some hardware upgrades as well. So when D300s is out, D300 will be discontinued, so the price might not drop. You can take D70/D70s and D2X/D2Xs as examples.

There will always be a next camera after the next. How long are you going to wait?

But according to lsisaxon, D300 price would remain the same, eh? How about the speculated price of D300s? Will it be much higher than D300 price now? I didn't follow the prices of D70/D70s before, so I am not so sure about the pricing trends. |

So you might still need to wait a while (maybe a couple of months?) before the prices drop to the current D300 level. By then they might also have recalled the older D300, so you might probably not be able to get any.As with all digital bodies, if you can wait, wait. If you cannot wait, then there is not much harm getting the D300 now also. If you need a body urgently, then get it first because you don't know when the 's' is coming out and you don't know when the price will drop to the current D300 pricing because of market forces. Might be soon because no one's buying or might take longer because of the lack of stock. It could be anything. ![]() Last edited by lsisaxon; 7th July 2009 at 03:09 PM. |

This is really up to you.
You know that there will definitely be a newer one soon. If you can afford to wait why not? If you can't, and need the camera now, then get it.

Will there even be a D300s? There was no D100s, no D200s. I suggest you get a 2nd hand set. That way you won't feel the pain if the price drops. Or at least it won't be that painful.

If can wait, wait = you don't really need it, just want it. Shot with existing gear.
Like Isisaxon said, you will pay early adopter price if you get the rumoured D300s. If you wait and D300s is out then D300 might go cheaper, so wait. If you find D300s better, then get D300s, so wait. If you don't want to wait then best bet is second hand. If don't want dilemma like this always buy about 9 months to 1 year after introduction of the model = best price vs performance ratio. I got my D300 1 year ago, not much more expensive than current price, many months of shiok playing, and when new model come out I am ok. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I guess I'll just go with D300 now
![]() I used to have a D40x but sold it recently, and in coming months, I'll be going for an overseas trip and I need a camera to go along with, hence the query about the D300 price It's not that I really need the camera right now, but I prefer to have a few months to get used to the camera before I bring it for a trip Just to get myself familiar with the settings/functions. |

Holy
![]() ![]() ![]() Where did you dig this up? Serious! Yeah, wisann, there's always a latter model. I agree with you though on your last point... me also like to familiarise with the gizmo before getting down to bizness... though Nikon generally does make the learning curve a little easier than their competition ![]()

I think you have to ask yourself the following questions. You fear that you will pay more now? You fear that the D300 replacement will have better features?

Er, I think I gave the impression that I wanted D300s hahaha.. I actually didn't, I want to get D300 whether or not D300s is available, but the question is, would it be much cheaper if I get D300 after D300s is made available
Anyway, my question is answered. Thanks guys. Now, planning on what lens I want to get along with the body. Currently I only have 50mm f1.8 left with me. Lol.LOL@chngpe01's video... |

By the way, what additional features does the D300s have over the D300?

But as explained by lsisaxon, I think it's still a good time for me to get D300 now as the price won't go down very soon ![]() |
