do you mean ZOOM as having a large range of focal lengths, or the ability to see far (i.e. telephoto)?
If you only want the lens to view distant objects, maybe get D90 body + 400mm f/4 lens or something. We don't know what kind of photos you like to take, nor your budget, so how to recommend you a camera + lens combo?

I just bought the d90 with the kit lens. I have the 18-200 (which i am selling off). Personally, i suggest u go for Option 2. for 200 mm, you probably would use a dedicated lens like a 70-200 instead.

Option 2 or 3... depending on your budget.

I recommended u go for option 2. D90 is a better choice if budget allowed. 18-105mm is a good walkaround lens. With this set up, u will no need to buy any other stuffs. Some prime lens is next purchase. hehe

Does the D5000 kit come with the 18-105 VR lens? If it does, then I think it is the best buy for me.

I heard that this is a new 'package' that's being offered. Yeah seems like a good offer, though it brings the price much closer to that of the D90 kit, which would then become a more attractive purchase.

not everyone buys prime lenses.
A friend of mine bought D5000 kit w 18-55 VR lens. I seriously doubt she'll be buying any other lenses in the near future. Not everyone is a gearhead, or needs that kind of image quality or bokeh.

I was using the D90 for filming... how i wish for a flip screen! I didnt consider the D5000 earlier because i still need the IQ for some work done. Hence the D90. If you are using it for leisure, i think D5000 works well.

Thanks for all advises
![]() Now i have a clear image that what i am going to get... Just checked with a camera shop near Somerset just now. They are offering me about the below price: D90 with 18 -105: SGD1680 D5000 with 18-105: SGD1380 There's 300 bucks different between this 2 models.. It seem worth to get D5000 as it seem no much different between these 2 cameras.. I went to Funan too and notice that only few shops are offering D5000 with 18-105 kit.. |

I saw a bus ad today, it says ' Escape, Explore, Experience'. Perhaps you should do that...

D90 has an AF motor in the body, D5k doesn't. For some people, these may be enough reasons to go for the D90 instead of the D5k. |

How did you arrive at this conclusion? $ wise or Specs wise?Check out these review/comparison & spot the hugh difference btw D90 & D5000 esp in In-body focus motor, Pentaprism Viewfinder, 3" LCD monitor, top LCD, sub-command dial, etc. Unless if these impt things does not tickle you of course D5000 is your choice. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond5000/ http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng...(brand3)/Nikon Hope you make the right choice ![]() |

yeah D5000 is also a capable camera, but it is naive to say that the D5000 and D90 are pretty much the same.
Having the top LCD display, the extra command dial, and the ultra-sharp 3" LCD is reason enough FOR ME to justify spending an extra $300 for the D90. Add to that the wireless flash commander capability.... [do I go on??]
