Planning to get a 2nd hand DX 35mm f1.8 as I do wish to pay so much for a first hand. I called up one of the shop in funan and got a quote of a brand new at $350 with GST and they genuine have stocks for it.
However, most of the 2nd hand selling in B&S are charging $370-$400. It is really stange that people are snapping up the lens at higher price when a brand new from the shop is cheaper. Anyone know the reason ? From what I know, all are made in china set. It really beats me if there is really a degraded batch or something that made people want to get the expansive 2nd hand set.

Which shop did you go to? At S$350, do you have to buy some "digital-use" filters?

Or perhaps they only provide shop warranty, i.e. grey sets without Nikon warranty. These will probably be at the price point you mentioned.
There is a big shortage of the AFS 35mm F1.8 DX everywhere even in Hong Kong, that is why many are willing to pay close to the brand new price for used sets.

depends.. when stocks are low, people have the upperhand.. many want to push for a profit from sets that they might have gotten across the border
too bad i'm in EU where lenses are not much cheaper than singapore, if i'm in the US one can really buy tons and bring back. i sourced for one mint 35mm f1.8 with a filter as a gift for a friend, and got the 2 week old lens for $320 sgd.. well if one cannot wait and want one badly.. then one will lose bargaining power

AP stock the 35mm already? Sigh!!!!
Ok i can say that AP does not sell grey sets, since i went there to try out the 35mm before when they had stock, but decided to buy a week later ($$$). Ended up no stock ![]() Bought mine at $370 instead, without filter. |

Simple, there was a real shortage of stock a few months back. Some were laying their hands on stocks at $350 (which is the right price at the usual places) and re-selling at BNS at $400 to make a quick few bucks. Some perhaps were unable to let go and I believe currently there is good level of stock out there, you should be able to pop into a shop, or at least a few shops, and find ready stocks.
Tell the BNS guys regular stocks are back in shop. Offer them $300 or less, or buy new. At AP and other usual places this price gets you local set with warranty. |

I'm still shooting with my Sigma 24/1.8, so I'm not in that much of a hurry to buy too. Will let you know if I succumb to it. ![]() |
