I'm deciding if i should get a d60 or a d80, and as d80 is a rather old model, and has older shooting modes, BUT has more functions, i am unsure of which, in the end is still better and worth to get.
Still new so need some advices. Any suggestions? thanks! |

Forget about them and go with a D5000 or D90.

i think TS got a tight budget... else for sure he'll go for either d90 or d5000...
both d60 and d80 is nice camera... if you're going to go crazy in photography then d80 is the better choice... the body focus motor would save you a bit on lenses in the future... image wise... i don't see much differences between that two... |

I second D80. Means you can get those cheaper AF lens like the 50mm 1.8 and have nothing to worry when u upgrade to d90/d9x(successor)
If you go for d60, you must buy only AF-S lens to autofocus and it's annoying to pay extra for those...... ![]() |

If you don't foresee yourself getting any non AF-S lens, save up abit more and get the D5000. Its better than both the D60/D80 for the money you're paying.
Personally, I'll save up more for the D90.

d80 is still not bad for the moment, unless you're willing to save up for a d90.
but my next upgrade would be a d5000, i got a few AF-S lens already, no need for the in-body focus motor of the d90.

For someone moving into SLR photography a D60 is perfectly fine. You asked the question in a photog forum. Hence all the D90 suggestions. Get a D60, learn the basics of real photography (not point and shoot automatic cameras), then when you're feeling the pinch of not enough lenses or whatever, then sell the D60 and upgrade. All this nonsense about AF-S etc is for pixel peeps. I've used the 18-55mm on a D60 and been very happy in most cases. Then I got a Tokina 11-16mm wide angle and am loving it.
As a general principle, spend less on the body and more on the lenses. Good luck! |

D60 does not have a internal focusing motor, so if auto-focusing is a must, u can only use a limited variety of lenses. Maybe after some time you will think D60 was not enough for you, start to get body upgade and spend more money on the body....^^
D80 will have a larger range to choose from for autofocusing lenses, function will be more than D60 and it was a good camera all the time. Is a old model but good value and still good enough for the newbie's. D90 have a good noise control when use high ISO to take a picture, and movie function lah...but you need to pay more on this. I don't see much difference between D90 and D80. D60 lighter, d80 bulkier Have been told that D60 or D90 produces better images maybe due to the new imaging software. so how now? U choose.. haha |
