Default Two questions....

Can any forummers tell me:-
1. Where genuine Nikon Cameras are made?

2. Is there any website that shows the difference between looking through the viewfinder of a D300 vs D700. I've seen a lot of references to the D700 viewfinder being bigger and brighter. It would love to see this comparison without my having to travel to Singapore.
(The Nikon shop on Ho Chi Minh City only has D300)

Cheers

AFAIK
Genuine Nikon cameras:
- Pro series Japan (D3 series)
- Prosumer series Thailand (D300 and below)
- Consumer range Coolpix - not sure but think some are from Thailand, others from China

Not sure how website can show the difference, subjectively (I didn't make a comparison then), bigger - pick up a film SLR and view through you should get the difference in size.

Brighter... didn't think so.

D300 and D700 are different cameras.

DX and FX...FX have a larger VF which relates to why u see it as larger and brighter.

Its 1.5X larger than DX format

Hi diediealsomustdive,

Why didn't I think of that. Yes I will compare using a film camera.
Re the question about where the cameras are made. I read an old post on the internet a few days ago by an American guy saying he wouldn't buy a Nikon in Vietnam because he thought they were fake. Two days ago I was in Saigon and looked at a D300 and was surprised to see it had "Made In Thailand" written on it. Anyway, now I am back home in Vung Tau and have just checked my own D200 - bought in Australia - and it also is Made In Thailand.

Unfortunately the shop didn't have any D700. Prices were not too bad.
D300 USD1,340
D700 USD2,370

Cheers,

JohnMak

1. D3 = Japan
2. D700, D300, D50, D70/s, D40/x, D60, D5k = Thailand
Haven't seen any non-genuine Nikon camera in the market yet.

2. Using the same FX lens, you'll get a larger angle of view on the D700. Gives the perception that it is bigger?

The ones I've laid hands on are MIT. Not particular about the country of manufacture (that much) anymore. The QC is more important.
