Thread: Where to buy smelly beancurd?

Default Where to buy smelly beancurd?

Anyone got any idea where to get my hands on some the good stuff? Looks like many shops closed less than a year they got started. I'm looking for good quality stuff (ie. smells real bad).

Tried googling but cannot find... getting desperate.

There used to be a store that sell behind Bugis (a yr ago).
It WAS located along the road opp from current Toast Box.

Last time used to be beside the Apple Strudel (if I remember correctly).
Kena complaint by people then nobody want to eat.

I think now close down already. Not sure.

Googled this online. Dont know if they are still around. The only 2 shops around then were the Geylang and the Bugis shop but I think they have closed shop. Not everyone can take the exquisite taste of smelly tofu haha.

Failing which the other next thing u can do is to visit pasar malams in Malaysia. I don't know if JB pasar malams have it but in KL, there is sure to be one stall selling it in any pasar malam in KL.

    I ditto that.
Personally found the HK ones sufficiently pungent and of strong enough character to carry the title of 'Smelly tofu'.
Have tried several Taiwan stalls in Taipei, but found them of a lesser odour.
Depends on how odiferous one would prefer his Smelly tofu lor...

Too smelly then tourists will complain as why Lau Pa Sat so smelly, why never clean-up the place

I tried that shop in Geylang mentioned by +evenstar, they're still around when I was there a couple of months ago.

I love the HK style & often eat at the one along Geylang main rd. It's on the right hand side & just a few shops away from the main junction between Geylang/Guillemard & Paya Lebar. In short, its diagonally opp City Plaza.

It's called "Xing zai" opens in afternoon till 1am+/-.

I've eaten the Dongbei ones, in dark grey sauce like those smelly water from drains.... & smells like dead rat almost puked... but client insists I must try.

Thanks... I'll try look up the one on Geylang since it looks like it got the best review here. Will let you guys know how smelly it is.

Just got back, guess what, Boston's weather is no longer what you think it is if you haven't gone there for the last 3 years.

    Cheers!
