Thread: what's the keep-out distance for sunbirds nests?

Question what's the keep-out distance for sunbirds nests?

There is a sunbird nest under the aircon ledge of my workplace, hanging on a piece of electrical wire. The nest is 1~2m from us while we walk along that spot and can see the bird and beak. With 100mm macro lens, it's a bit far to take photos.

how close can I go? the nest less than 2m from ground.

The one at my office, I can actually get as close as 50cm? Just check the timings of the mother bird before you go. Normally they will be out to get food at an approximate fixed timings For mine last time is around 1130 to 1200 they will not be at their nest and not anywhere near

At the zoo taxi drop off area, there is a sunbird nest about 2m high where people can walk below. The birds still go in and out normally.

Haha well if it is 2m high, they dun really care, if human can go very near, they tend to try and attack (or shoo you away per se). Btw if you manage to take some pix, share ya
