Seems like many local Pentax users now using this lens and with the attractive pricing, many more will join the ranks. Good range and good optics.

BTW this lens is also IR friendly. No hot spots detected.

Ok. Here's for the benefit of those considering this lens.
There are claims that the lens is f4.5 up till 210mm and f5.6 up to 290mm on Pentax Forums.
    http://www.pentaxforums.com/lensrevi...uct=312&cat=43

I've tried out my copy and the values are as follows :
Tested on a K100D w/ Tv set to 1/4000 to force widest aperture. Camera set to 1/3EV compensation stops if that matters. f-stop values based on EXIF data.

    55-108mm : f4 :Looks like 110mm on zoom scale
    109-190mm : f4.5 :Looks like 2000mm on zoom scale
    191-260mm : f5.6 :Looks like 280-290mm on zoom scale
    260-300 : f5.8

This is not too far from the claim esp. if its based on the zoom scale of the lens.
All this said, it is sharp wide open at all focal lengths and the f-stop:focal length values are still good so this is still the long zoom to go for budget Pentaxians.

    BTW thanks Bernard...

pinholecam, on my copy, the aperture changes are pretty much similar to yours tested by viewfinder/LCD readout and taking a look at image exif.
Whoever on Pentaxforums who claims that the maximum aperture is f/4.5 at 210mm is clearly writing a load of bullshit...

Thanks Dennis for the test results on the 55-300mm lens. Now to save some money to get it.

Tried it today. Seems fast enough although not excessively fast (K-7 body).

    Nice IQ.

ISO 1250, 300/5.8, 1/25 (single shot, probably lucky and I guess SR does work at least a little).

    Teeemptting.

Through eBay (Prodigital2000) from Canada and just lucky to win highest bid. I paid US$285+US$50 shipping order.

Hmmm, not much of a difference compared with the new local price.
I would think buying locally would be a better option as there is local warranty included and you could have got the lens immediately. Lucky you didn't have to pay GST.

Haha, Prodigtal2000. I have bought stuff from them before. They don't answer my emails. Have to call them on the phone. Hope you had a better experience.

Yes, 2 years warranty is only for Canada but I am thinking of asking John Vigil for 1 year International warranty if my purchase is valid or not?

I saw Gengh's contribution, showing SRP $499.98 but MSC and OP charge over $700.

That is the old price. The new one is S$499. But MS Color sold off theirs. We have to wait for the new shipment by MJ.
