Default Nikon Adjusting Its Price

Just a disclaimer that this is not a damper for those who have already bought their cameras (you can start using them now) but more of a heads-up for those who are currently contemplating of getting one.

A source (seller) says that Nikon is adjusting its price list or very likely, accompanying freebies, in two weeks time. I was told Canon had started the ball rolling (so probably that's why Nikon is following suit) by reducing its prices. I was quoted a Canon 500D with Kit 1 is now going for $1151. I didn't press about the GST but even then, compare to the price listed in this forum, it's still cheaper by a fraction. There's not much details or resolution yet but whatever you're dreaming now may be more tempting by mid-July.

Please, this is just sharing a heads-up - it's inert, nothing flammable.

The lens are the revenue drivers in recent years.
They suck us in by giving us cheap bodies. Look at how many of us are dying to get our hands on new lens and accessories.
This is marketing at its best. =)

How much are they selling D3 again?

Regards

Good news that the prices are coming down. Maybe, their strategy of increasing the price 1/2 yr ago is not meeting their sales target. All the makers then, used the weak US$ VS Yen as an excuse to increase the price.

You can now guess the reasons for the price reduction:
1. recession sale
2. price of raw materials dropped by 30 -40% from the peak of mid 2008.
3. target to capture more market share.

BBB virus attacking soon and hopefully with all the spendings, it will be boom time again.

wow, but i guess the price adjustments would take longer than 2 weeks (if it happens in 2 weeks) to hit singapore.

Seriously hope it applies to lens too, if not i xin tong...... can save until the price cut and buy d90 instead of d5000...... (which is still a great cam )

On the contrary, you get to touch it, feel it, learn it, use it right now. This should be your best time!

Wait for the best prices and you might miss the best photo opportunities available to you.

Prices are always getting better and technology always improving, wait a while can, just don't wait forever for the best deal.

nothing unfair leh.

prices go up, prices go down.

considering that i got one of the most expensive lens when the prices were sky high, i think i should be quite upset about this drop in prices.

but then, somehow, i dun feel anything. cos i have gotten shots that are priceless with my current setup. no regrets of a single bit. boo hoo to the early adopters (which includes me).. but i believe they migth just be lowering prices of bodies. probably not lens. its might all be a BBB trap....

Exactly. But I do hope the price reduction will affect FX too and not just the entry level DLSRs.

Can't wait for the price to drop man.

Shopping list for new lens only can get one lens. Since the price probably be dropping so its time to increase the shopping list.

Adjusting definitely doesn't mean "plunge", I won't even dared hope for a "reduction". At best (if this is true) it would probably shave a few tens of dollars off the current prices.
