Giant Ghengis Khan Statue

About 2 hours east of Ulaan Bataar, Mongolia, a huge statue of the great Khan has been built and the surrounding compound is still under construction, as you can see from the piles of stone blocks in the foreground of the picture.

A very majestic tribute, indeed!!

Thats one large statue .... did you get out much from the city to see the rest of the country ??

Not enough time to venture further as I am on a working trip. Here is another shot of the statue. There is actually an elevator that will take you up to the horse's head, but it would not working. Too bad it was an overcast day. I thought they should have built this magnificent monument perhaps overlooking UB, and in full view from UB, rather than way out in the middle of nowhere... Its like putting the merlion in Pulau Ubin or something...
