Need help with video in camcorder

Hi, I have a JVC 700x camcorder.

I have recently shot several videos meant for school work and now I wanna retrieve it, I connected my camcorder to my laptop directly using the usb port. While trying to access the videos, it prompted me to format the disk before I can use it.

It meant the tape inside because my SD card is 2gb while the one its trying to format is 1gb only.

If i format it, will I lose all my videos?

there is the danger for deleting your vids since its not impossible it format the 1gb part of your vid. why dont you try accessing the sd card content using a card reader. Tell us how it goes.
