Hi there... saw his album, pretty cool!
you can try to lower the saturation under Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, leaving a slight hint of colour (from what i see in the pic there's still a hint of green in the background).
Then you can use photo filter to adjust color to brownish, or overlay a brown layer on top and play with blending modes...

have fun experimenting! =)

Adobe Lightroom has some nice Development Presets, helps a lot to achieve such effects. Get the LR 30 days trial version from adobe.com and the free presets from Adobe Exchange. Such presets are a good starting point, you can still adjust whatever you want and even create your personal presets then.

Thank you very much for knowledge sharing, I tried to adjust the saturation and use the filter, got roughly similar effect, perhaps need more practice
also tried the LR for the first time, it's really amazing, got so many presets, wonderful software, thanks to octarine's recommendation.

There are books available from where you can start into Lightroom. Have a good look at the various bookstore. "Riceball" at Funan is specialized in photographic books. But I guess your library can help as well. Even if you only get a LR book for version 1.4 it's still ok to start with to get the basics.

did u obtain permission from the photographer to post his work here?
if no, u might want to change it to a link to the photographer's site instead.

Is this kind of effect called 'Cinematic Effect' or something like that?

Yes.

I would be offended if someone else use my pics on forums without permission also, most people would.

But donno whether if the TS asked permission or not. Maybe he did.
