Default Black Rapid's Rstrap RS4 - Major Problem

Hi guys. I got my R strap RS4 two days ago from RedDotPhoto and I really really like it. They don't sell / allow the fastenR2 and ConnectR2 ones, which I'd like to have, but nevermind. Love it, except for one problem.

Here is user Permagrin's (from POTN forums) Rstrap FastenR :

Apparently, the FastenR they show on their site has a way bigger hole than I have: http://reddotphoto.com.sg/ecommerce/...tid=1.2&pid=41

And here's mine:

Notice the difference in area of the hole?

Because of the small hole, my strap ConnectR's difficult to hook in place. Then, there are angles where the hook will lock / jam due to the small hole, and then scrape against the FastenR, causing this problem:

Very frustrated now. Emailed RedDotPhoto and Black Rapid already, and am awaiting their replies.

Cheers,
Zexun

Let me know if you have problem resolving it. I ordered two fasteners from Black Rapid last year and eventually lost one of the washer so I have one doing nothing in my cabinet. You can have it FOC provided you can pick it up yourself. Send me a PM if you are interested.

I heard there is a possibility that the swivel hook detaching itself at the swivel.

I've been using the strap for more than a year. I have the fastener with the big hole.

There's no real way to avoid the scrapping of paint on the connector. Mine is no longer black. What's important is that it holds well.

Alright, will get back to you if I can't resolve it myself. Thanks!

Yeah, exterior blemish. No problem. Or is it? I'd like to know I can blemish a new product within 15min of normal use. It can't be so bad as that right?

alternatively, you can go to tuas / ubi to any machine shop to have them drill a larger hole for you. probably will cost only 5bux.

If possible, I'd rather have the newer FastenR 2 and ConnectR 2s.

My old sec school has a DnT workshop. I'll try my best to get a decent reply from either the manufacturer or the distributor before attempting DIY. Thanks for the suggestion.

I see, thanks for the suggestions, but there's no need for DIY-ing now.

Welp, I'm impressed. Bryan from Black Rapid emailed me just a day after I emailed customer service. Here's the reply:

Quote:
Hello Zexun,

I appreciate you providing pictures to help illustrate your problem, it makes things way easier for us. Your fastener is definitely different, and we'd like to send you a replacement part. Give us an address we can ship to and I can send a CR-1 and a FR-1 to immediately.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Bryan Holmes

Alright!

Yeah, what is a $2 Connector as compare to the good publicity from people reading this thread? BlackRapid is not a big company but sometimes the smaller ones actually provides much better customer service than the big ones.

From the product standpoint, they do have their short comings. They announced the new connector2 in September last year but was only able to deliver in May this year. People pre-ordering it definitely are not happy about the long delay. And, 2 weeks after they release the new CR2, they realized there is a QC problem (swivel comes loose) so they have to send another CR2 out to the customers. All I can say is that they are responsible vendor but are struggling on the delivery front.

They also have the new Fastener-2 out but from what I heard, there is also a concern of the FastenR-2 coming loose so they are delaying the release of this product.

Indeed. One of the few times I have experienced good after-sales service!

I'm not sure. If you're purchasing a strap from RDP or Cathay Photo, you could refer them to my photograph and ask / see if the size of the hole is the same as my apparently "affected" one.

This is the new ConnectoR-2 or CR-2

I think this connector has no problem hooking onto the smaller hole fastener. But if you have the original connector, then the smaller hole will be too tight.

Thanks Headshotx for pointing this out.

We have not had major issues with the size of the holes so far. The paint on the hook does get worn off after regular use even with the bigger-sized holes.

We're contacting the manufacturer to notify them this.

Thanks again for the feedback,
Fisher from RDP
