Actually it is commonly called a golden rabbitfish or a Orange-spotted spinefoot .

It's scienctific name is called Siganus guttatus under the family of Siganidae.

The fish is normally found in Indo-West Pacific: Andaman Is, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia (including Irian Jaya), Vietnam, Ryukyus, southern and eastern China, Taiwan, South China Sea, Philippines, and Palau.

Hope that helps.

i did a 1 day trip to similan from phuket as time is limited.
book thru sunrise divers located at karon beach.
but the boat( hydrofoil ) is owned by kingfisher divers, dive masters from king fisher. price is about the same irregardless of whom u book thru.

it's a new boat launch recently( about 1 wk ago ) and it can attain up to 30 knots. similan islands are usually reached by live on board, but with the hydrofoil u can reach the dive sites in 2.5 hrs. boat moved out from patong at around 8am, reached patong at around 5:30pm.

thanks blurblock...indeed it's the the orange spotted spinefoot.

cheers

what to do, me also heart pain. but my wife haven't encounter great vis during the 20+ dives since openwater so bring her to "aquarium" loh.

this is the price to pay for, for a day trip to similan. cheaper options will be the popular dive sites around phuket, shark pt/king cruiser wrecks/anemone reef/... ( can consider good/great as well ) or better still a live on board for 3-4 days to similan ( make the money worth ).

cheers!

actually a live aboard might be cheaper cos you might get more dives.. less travelling time rite?

my sis just went phuket last july.. wasn't too happy with the waters there,

yup lob will be more economical.

july is still their wet seasons... but the dive sites are diveable all year round. been to racha yai/noi during the wet seasons too , vis is still as good cause it is at the islands' bays.

sometimes it all depends on luck ...

yes, andaman sea had a southwest monsoon during may to october. so best time to dive is nov till april. alternatively, usu in the southwest monsoon u can go koh tao, koh phangan (well known for full moon party) koh samui etc, which is at gulf of thailand.

usu in the monsoon season, price are cheaper compare to peak season.
