Hi Taurean have been a fan of your food pics. May i know if you shot with a tripod of some sort like a gorilla pod? and what lens are you using? is it macro? otherwise how you get so near to the food?

    Thanks hotchoco1ate.

Nope I don't use tripod or gorilla pod when shooting, all hand held with high ISO when needed.

I usually shoot with either kit lens or 35mm and sometimes PNS too. Those dishes / food I shot isn't "small" so with what I use is enough for me to get close.

Icic. Always thought macros are needed for decent shots. From what i know, certain kit lens only allow a MFD of 45cm. Which is pretty far. your 35mm can go up to 30cm right?

Yup 30cm, even with MFD of 45cm still workable in most places. There are no hard and fast rules to what to use. More importantly we must know what we want to achieve / get across.

35mm is one of my favourite lens and its ability to focus really close is a big plus.

for the beef goulash, a slightly higher angle will eliminate the shadow on left and the distraction at the back. Think you can boost the contrast a bit.

the beef goulash foto looked abit washed-up, lacking in contrast.
