You can get the kit for around $1850, GST included. Some places slightly lower, most places higher than that. I think $1850 is a good price to base from; just remember that it's inclusive of GST. Try to get a set soon, since GST will be 5% instead of 4% in 2004. Just approx. $20 more, but hey...you can get yourself some lunch after purchasing your new toy, and more.
Also, do check the contents of the box. Salesperson should be happy to go over the content list with you. Some kits also come with a separate warranty for the 18-55mm lens. Some kits have one warranty card that specifies that the warranty is for the kit. Maybe it was just my luck, but I have both. I have found Alan Photo to be a nice store to go to. Reasonable prices without bargaining. Steven at AP is a good person to deal with from my personal experience with him. For spare batteries, i'd go to EastGear and get the 1500mah BP-511s. CF cards...depends on what you need and how much you want to spend. My TwinMos 512MB ones cost me $199 per piece. A little slow compared to the other brands like Transcend, Hagiwara(?), Sandisk. Beware of some compataibility issues regarding some cards. Do a search on ClubSNAP. Plenty of info. The new SanDisk Ultra II CompactFlash cards have a minimum sustained write speed of 9 megabytes (MB) per second and a read speed of 10 MB per second. The TwinMos ones run at 3.8MB/s write speed, and 4MB/s read speed. Check the price differences, and decide if it's worth spending the extra money. I've always used TwinMos with no problems, so i can't find a good enough reason to switch. When i start taking wedding photos...yeah, maybe i will. In the meantime, the faster read & write speeds does nothing for me. I bought the EastGear batteries for $28 down at the store itself. Do note that the original Canon batts cost A LOT MORE. I've had no problems with the EastGear batts, and they're 1500mah ones. Someone has had a problem with the Megapower line of batteries, but has yet to isolate the problem. Check out www.eastgear.com for more info. As a ClubSNAP member, we get small little perks. Stick with the kit lens. I know some people who have sold theirs, and they've regretted doing so. It's hard to find a replacement without spending a lot of money for one. Work with it, and slowly check out the Buy/Sell section for good deals on lenses that you might find useful for your applications. The 28-105mm USM II is a nice lens, or the 28-135mm if you don't care about the zoom creep. Do a search on zoom creep if you want to read more. Well, i've given you plenty of info to start off with. Hope you find your 300D soon, and at a reasonable price. Have fun, and remember to register your 300D at www.canon.com.sg to start your warranty without having to send your warranty card in. |

300D reading/writing to CF doesn't depend on the CF speed (ie: 300D uses the lower). however, get yourself a USB 2.0 CF card reader that hooks up to your pc's USB port. (you may also need to add a USB 2.0 pci card if your pc's usb port is a 1.1 type ie: older pc.. otherwise you're not benefitting from the potential 480mbs transfer rate as compared to the older 12mbs or 1.5mbps)
that is the preferred method of file transfer which is faster than anything any other camera can do. |

problem could be the card rather than the camera.

Got mine at Alan Photo, for 1750 (body only); as the kit was still out of stock, when I bought about 2 weeks ago. They're selling the kit for $1850. Both inclusive of GST. They also offer 0% interest free installment (that's what they say, at least), on Diners and UOB Visa credit cards. Try them out, they won't rob you of your money. It's the first time I've been to that store, and everyone was very accomodating and nice.
