Very nice photos, Noir.

I was taking the buskers this week also. Thought of entering the contest but didn't have a good digital camera to take lah. Did you enter the competition? I think they are good. What's the shutterspeed for the slow sync flash with the busker riding the bike? I wanted to create this effect with my film camera also..

Cheers,
Danny Ng

Thanx for all for your comments.

The shutter speed used for those shots ranged from 1/4 to 1/10sec. Camera's on aperture priority (f.3.5) with auto fill flash reduction and - 2 stops compensation to top it off. Hope this helps.

And yes, I did try some photos for the competition. However, the Canon booth ceased accepting entries for the entire festival far too early, even before the last 10:30pm performace on the last day had even begun. So kind of missed a few out. Had written to them about this, so will see what happens.

I see, Noir. I think they will definitely get you to submit yours. I mean it's nonsense that they close their store before the last show ended. I think they should have opened for one more day for the event or have an alternate place to submit the pictures. I can understand why people rush in for the last day, need to choose the best photos right? What camera system are you are using? I have seen some people using omnibounce or lumiquest flash adaptor. Personally, I think flash power is reduced significantly with these adaptor and not much help as there is no wall for the flash to bounce off with the dispersion of flash. Negative flash compensation will definitely work better than the adaptors.

Good job!

I'm using a Canon system and a flash with an Omnibounce @ 45 degrees or more, depending on the amount of fill needed and intensity. Omnibounce doesn't actually need the ceiling or wall to work as part of the light do get directed forward as well, just how much. This, plus a -ve flash compensation still works rather well as in the case of fast moving subjects when I don't have the time to use FEL on my camera to anticipate a lock on an exposure before-hand. The best scenario would be to use a softbox, but than in this particular shooting salutation, I prefer the portability and ease to move around more freely and with lesser bulk to worry about. Just my humble opinion. I may be wrong though. Still learning from everyone as well...

I see, Noir.

Well, everyone got their preferences so as long they know how to use it. The bouncing off walls is what i understand from the concept of omibounce. I can agree with you that some of the flash power still get forward. The thing is the rest of the flash power is going some where else. Softbox is a bit out of the question, very bulky.
