Default Kings dethroned

my heart sank when i enter the holding area of a zoo, seeing my beloved tigers and a lion in these conditions. The behind the scences of the zoo is not as beautiful as it seems along the visitor path. i took a few pictures of them in it, clearly their expression tells it all.

quite sad really...
but that is life....
at least they get to move around the exhibit area which looks much better than the holding area...
on the bright side, they serve to educate the public on the need to save the environment and that we share the earth with these animals.

eh, how did you get into the holding area?
just curious

At night behind a cage and sleeping or resting on concrete floor. Daytime show time where they get a bit more breathing space with some man make greenery. It is just like putting one behind a prison a night and sleeping on cold hard floor. Daytime...go out of the cell and walk around the prison courtyard all day long.

Although kept in tight spaces, I am sure they are better off than their wild counterpart. They look well fed and healthy although bored.

this zoo happens to have an access to it's indoor holding area, it has an outdoor exhibit too, which i did not see a single animal on broad daylight, dunno what the keepers are doing..well if i were to manage a zoo, i would as least make the holding area look natural enough, not with concrete and bars, but with grass, rocks, water etc

as explained above, i think the keepers of this zoo rather let the animals stay inside than letting them go into their outdoor exhibit, since visitors are allowed to enter the holding area..

well i would rather say the wild counter part is much better off, yes they might not be well fed as those in the zoo, but at least they are free, fitter cos of hunting activities, and they can display their natural behaviour like scent marking, territory guarding, fighting for mate etc

well there can be a few factors, it might be a female as they are not as big and muscular as the males, the loose skin might be endemic to the subspecies(malayan tiger in this case), different subspecies have slightly different look in size, colour, and strip patterns. and yes old age can be a factor too(if its really really old), but i believe night safari won't display animals that are too old and weak.

I saw a book at Kino featuring animals that are being caged up in B & W. The photographer somehow managed to invoke the viewer with emotions of these animals caged up are as good as human beings in prison. Damn good photographer.
